A comprehensive list of the companies which make Tablet PCs – it features all the different brands of tablets. First, there’s a top ten, followed by a list of almost 50 others.

These are the top brands of tablet computers – the best-selling tablet brands that make the best tablets but sometimes have premium prices.

Market share data is given for the top 5 – they account for 45.8% of global tablet sales.

1. Apple

– Basics – Still market leader despite a drop in tablet sales in 2015. The iPad Pro launch was successful, so the company was able to maintain its profit margins.

2. Samsung

– Basics – A giant South Korean conglomerate that is involved in a vast range of manufacturing.

3. Amazon

– Basics – Headquartered in Seattle and founded by Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s ruthless pursuit of total customer satisfaction has led them to be the biggest retailer in the world. Their low-cost (probably loss-leading) tablets have allowed them to carve a huge niche in the lower end of the market with a strong focus on multimedia.

4. Lenovo

– Basics – This Chinese company (HQ – Beijing) and since their takeover of IBM’s PC operations, they have been the world’s largest maker of personal computers. They have extensive operations in Morrisville, North Carolina. Worldwide, they employ 60,000 people and generate revenues of over 45 billion USD.

5. Huawei

– Basics – A giant Chinese company based in Shenzen that makes a wide range of telecommunications devices. It has 170,000 employees, a whopping 76,000 of which are in Research and Development. It’s been the largest telecoms manufacturer in the world since 2012.

6. Microsoft

– Basics – Back to its innovative best, Microsoft might break back into the top 5 in 2016 based on more than a billion dollars of Surface tablet sales. They have reinvigorated the sector.

7. Asus

– Basics – One of the ten largest companies in Asia, it was founded as recently as 1989 in Taiwan. It employs more than 20,000 people worldwide.

– Basics – Probably doesn’t need an introduction… But 2015 was the year they first launched a solo tablet project.

– Basics – Headquartered in Santa Clara, Nvidia employs over 9,000 people. It made its name making graphics processors and expanded into tablet production with its Shield range.

– Basics – Another huge tech company to come out of Taiwan, it was founded in 1997 and its 13,000 employees generate a turnover of almost 4 billion dollars.

Note that the best tablet might not be worth buying – some of these firms might turn into to powerhouses later but are tiny now, and we expect many to drop off the face of the earth in the next five years.
