  • iPad Pro (9.7-inches, 1st generation, 2016)

  • iPad (5th generation, 2017)
  • iPad (4th generation, 2012)
  • iPad (3rd generation, 2012)
  • iPad (2nd generation, 2011)
  • iPad (1st generation, 2010)

Older iPad Airs

  • iPad Air (2nd generation, 2014)
  • iPad Air (1st generation, 2013)

Older iPad minis:

  • iPad mini (4th generation, 2015)
  • iPad mini (3rd generation, 2014)
  • iPad mini (2nd generation, 2013)
  • iPad mini (1st generation, 2012)

Let’s start at the top with the newest iPad on the market; the iPad Pro hit the shelves in 2020; it’s an update on the 2018 iPad Pro for professionals using the iPad to create serious work.

The iPad comes with a built-in Face ID and is compatible with the second-generation Apple Pencil, great for artists or designers! While the chip is less powerful than the iPad Air, the included features are a great addition!

What’s great about this iPad is the large screen version! Not only is there an 11-inch option, but also a whopping 12.9-inch screen that rivals laptops! The larger size makes the visuals easier to view and enjoy but can be difficult to travel with, which frequent travelers might find frustrating.

The iPad features a stunning Liquid Retina display for beautiful graphics; whether you are streaming films or creating artwork, clarity is guaranteed!

The 2020 iPad Pro boasts a whopping 1TV of storage! The added storage is expensive, though, so be sure to consider how much space you need before making your purchase. There are 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB options for those who don’t need as much.

In terms of cost, this iPad isn’t cheap. Depending on the storage capacity, it’s the most expensive iPad you can get! If you are after excellent storage space and the ability to work with the newest pencil, then it’s one for you to consider!

A more affordable option is the 2020 iPad! Featuring a 10.2-inch screen, you still get the Retina display and compatibility with the first generation Apple Pencil! It’s a fantastic option for customers that don’t want to break the bank when purchasing their new iPad!

It features an A12 Bionic processor, and you can choose between 32GB and 128 GB storage options that allow you to customize the iPad to your needs! The iPad sits between the iPad mini and the newer larger Pros in terms of size and performance.

It’s an excellent choice for streaming, but those wanting to use the iPad for large-scale products will want to upgrade to the Pro for faster processing speeds and larger storage space.

You’ll get all the iPad essentials, but it features thicker bezels than newer iPads and does not have the advanced Face ID or other features that we see on newer models. That doesn’t mean you need to rule out the iPad 10.2 though, for those after a handheld tablet that contains all the base features without breaking the bank, its’ an excellent choice!

Mid Range Pick

iPad Air 2020

No products found.

The new and improved iPad Air is considered by many as a dialed-up version of the entry-level iPad. The Air houses Apple’s most advanced tablet chip, the A14 Bionic. It’s the most powerful chip, even overtaking the newest Pro!

It’s also compatible with the second generation of Apple pencil and charges it magnetically! Simply snap the pencil to the edge of the iPad, and boom, charging begins! The iPad Air is also compatible with the Magic Keyboard case with a trackpad, so you don’t need to choose between a laptop or a tablet; combine the two!

There is no home button on the Air; you use Touch ID via the power button. It’s an easy way to gain access to your iPad and allows the bezels to be slimmed, providing a large, full-screen display that is stunning.

It’s a pricer option but provides incredible power, a beautiful screen, and a slim design that will be great for travelers and designers alike! The lack of Face ID can be a downside for some users.

The 2019 iPad features a 10.2-inch screen with a beautiful Retina display. It’s an affordable option that comes with lots of the fantastic iPad features we see on pricier options!

You still have access to compatibility with the Apple Pencil, fantastic storage options, Touch ID, and the same camera as the newer version! You might be wondering why is it cheaper if there is so much similarity? Well, the chipset used in the 2019 iPad is an A10, slower than other models.

It is unlikely that you will notice a drop in performance for those who aren’t going to run demanding programs. If you were running a demanding program, such as Photoshop, you might notice a slightly slower performance.

Although the newer Air features outstanding speed and a full screen, the price can be off-putting for some users. The high price point is where the 2019 iPad Air comes in to save the day! It’s a cheaper option, and there is little to compromise on!

It features the older A10 Fusion processor and two storage options, 64GB and 256GB, providing you with great options. You still get the 10.5-inch screen with Retina Display with true tone and wide color.

Compared to the newer Air model, the bezels are chunkier, and Touch ID is still present, a feature that many customers enjoyed. It is compatible with the first generation Apple pencil, too, so you can let your creativity flow! You can also pair the iPad with a keyboard allowing for a laptop-style feel.

You can generally find these iPads easily, and thanks to newer releases, you can often find them at a reasonable price! If you aren’t ready to lose the home button just yet, it’s an iPad that is worth considering!

For those seeking a smaller and compact iPad, the mini is a fantastic choice! The newest iPad mini features a 7.9-inch screen packed with the usual Retina display for a beautiful and crisp image.

Don’t let the small size put you off, though. Apple has packed the A12 Bionic processor into the iPad for fast and impressive performance. It is also compatible with the first generation of pencils. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with Apple’s keyboard cases, but that doesn’t mean a generic brand won’t suffice if you are desperate to type!

The 2019 iPad mini is an affordable option, too, with many using it as a substitute for a Kindle or  Kobo. Why not liven up your morning commute with a light and easy to handle book or film?

The iPad is packed with storage, too, offering 64GB or 25BG options. While it doesn’t have all the Pro features, it’s certainly a fine choice to consider.

The 2018 iPad Pro features an A12X Bionic processor to deliver a powerful performance, very close to the newer 2020 model. Like the newer model, you get an 11-inch screen featuring a Retina display that is fantastic for streaming or working, such as graphic design.

The downside to the 2018 Pro is that it is costly. You can get the new 2020 iPad Pro that features double the base storage for slightly more money! It’s an option many customers opt for these days. Alternatively, you can keep an eye out for sales, where you can pick the older Pro model up at a reasonable price.

Final word

And that brings us to the end of our look at iPad models today! There are plenty of fantastic options, as you can see, giving you a whole host of choices! If you are after a high-spec iPad, be prepared to spend some big bucks! If you aren’t too bothered, then the older models will provide many of the same features but often lack additional storage or compatibility with newer model pencils.

Whichever model you opt for, we at tablet comparison are sure you will enjoy your iPad! After all, who doesn’t want to swipe on a larger screen?
