Amazon Fire 7 (2021) Review

Last Updated on March 29, 2020

Although predominately known for internet shopping, Amazon makes quality tablets as well, and we proudly present you the latest Amazon Fire 7, previously named the Amazon Kindle Fire.

Now, boosted with Amazon Alexa, comes with an improved display, it’s lighter, thinner, and with longer battery life for the ultimate experience.

Layout and Looks

With measurements of 192mm x 115mm x 9.6mm and the weight of 295 grams, the Amazon Fire 7 is quite lightweight, which makes it easy to handle and carry. The plastic design is not the high-quality one, but for the price that is more than affordable, you shouldn’t expect more.

It comes in a variety of colors such as black, punch red, canary yellow, and marine blue, and has a 2 MP rear camera along with VGA front-facing camera for making selfies.

Horsepower, Storage & Display

Powered by the 1.3 GHz quad-core processor, the Amazon Fire 7 is responsive and fast enough for surfing, playing games, watching videos, and launching various apps.

This tablet has a 1 GB of RAM and 8 or 16 GB original storage capacity, but can expand up to 256 GB, which is more than enough to keep all the files, movies, videos, apps, and music that you find necessary.

The 7-inch, 1024 x 600 IPS display with 171 PPI allows you to enjoy in vivid colors from any angle and is evidently sharper and improved when comparing it to the previous versions.

OS, UI and Included Software

The Amazon Fire 7 runs the usual FireOS – Android operating system, while instead of the Google Play Store and Chrome browser, it uses Amazon Appstore and Amazon’s Silk browser.

You cannot find everything you want without the Google Play Store, but the biggest change in contrast with older versions is that now you have Alexa, which can be reached by pressing a circular home button. Alexa is excellent for checking the latest news, weather, asking questions, etc.

Networking and Peripherals

As it the case with other devices, this tablet also has dual-band Wi-Fi that supports the usual 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g, or 802.11n Wi-Fi, while the USB 2.0 (micro-B connector) allows you to connect the Amazon Fire 7 to a PC/Mac computer or to charge the battery.

The micro SD card slot is more than helpful, thanks to its maximum capacity of 256 GB, but the downside is that it doesn’t support 4G connectivity.

Performance in the Field

The internal specifications are not very changed from the older models, this 7th generation tablet’s Fire OS is reasonably responsive, but occasional hiccups and bugs can occur. If you need a faster tablet, this may not be a good choice, but in overall, it will do the job.

You can play numerous video games on it such as Real Racing 3 and Candy Crush that turned out to be working without any setbacks. The camera quality is not high, but using a tablet for taking photos is not recommendable anyway, while the battery life is from six to eight hours, which is OK when watching videos, listening to music, and surfing.

It fully charges in six hours with the original adapter, but will take a bit longer when using the additional micro USB adapter.

The Ideal Buyer

The Amazon Fire 7 is excellent for those with a tight budget and will prove like an excellent option for the first-time tablet users or children, but still, it’s not recommendable to ones who are seeking excellent performance and high definition photos and display.

The addition of Alexa is what makes this tablet better than its predecessors and it proved to be quite popular among the users.
