Toshiba Excite 10LE Review

Last Updated on March 29, 2020

This 10.1 inch beauty from the Japanese manufacturer Toshiba, will embarrass most of its smaller contemporaries with its razor thin thickness and light weight. It’s incredibly light for a 10 inch tablet. It sells under the Excite 10LE name in the US and AT200 internationally.

Tablet Features

The magnesium alloy body gives the tablet an attractive rich feel and look. At just 1.18 pounds weight and 7.7 mm thickness, this will be perhaps the lightest and thinnest Android tablet available now as we write this review.

However, don’t for a second think that Toshiba would have compromised somewhere on the hardware specs. Starting at 16 GB, the tablet features an OMAP dual core 1.2GHz processor. The micro SD slot should be sufficient for those who want storage space beyond the 16 and 32 GB stock memory available.

The display resolution of 1280 x 800 is based on IPS and is great even when viewing at off angles.

Usability

The tablet feels really light weight and can be comfortably held with one hand except for a sharp edge at the backside outer rim that can cause a little discomfort when held for long. The Toshiba Excite 10 LE / AT200 features a Gorilla Glass coating and therefore should make you that little bit more comfortable with minor scratches or falls.

You will find all the standard ports including a microSD slot on this tablet. The 5MP back camera and 2MP front camera is what you would expect from a tablet in this category.

The Toshiba Excite 10LE/AT200 fares poorly in the battery department. Overall, the battery lasts a little over 6 hours, whereas other tablets in a similar price range lasts over 8 hours. The Honeycomb 3.2 OS is not the latest and the best, but it is capable of managing the tasks quite efficiently as long as there is nothing too heavy thrown at it.

However, you can expect a little lag as the applications get heavier. On the apps side, there is always plenty available on Google Play and this is an area that will not disappoint.

What Customers Say

Some customers have noticed that the left lower corner gets a little too warm when the Excite 10LE/AT 200 is in the landscape mode. There have been also reports of bugs saying there is no connection while the connection is pretty good.

The sharp edges also have come in for some criticism from some customers as they get very uncomfortable to hold even though the tablet itself is very light and thin. The back camera has not worked well enough for a few customers with some complaining that the pictures are too grainy.

Conclusion

Toshiba has been known for some innovative products, but somehow, the Toshiba excite 10LE/AT200 fails to impress on the technical side, though on paper, it has a lot of potentials.

It looks like the company spent a lot of time making the tablet thinner and lighter while not really working on the technical details that will make the tablet a real performer.

For a first-time tablet buyer, this is a very decent buy. However, if you have already experienced the tablet computer, then this may not be the best second tablet for you.
