Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus Review

Last Updated on March 29, 2020

18 months ago, Samsung dominated the 7 inch tablet market with the release of their Galaxy Tab, and now they have gone one step further with the Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus. Lighter, slimmer and upgraded to the Honeycomb 3.2 operating system, this is truly an enhanced version. The functionality of the tab has been improved and it now has even more cool features to keep you occupied! Its mid-range pricing in the tablet market positions this tab against the Blackberry Playbook and the Toshiba Thrive.

Features

The Samsung Galaxy tab 7.0 plus has a decent battery life of up to 8 hours and like its predecessor, boasts a 3.0 megapixel rear facing camera but the front-facing camera has been upgraded to 2.0 megapixels. Samsung has moved away from their own Hummingbird processor for this tab and upgraded power installing a dual-core 1.2GHz Intel Celeron processor in the new Galaxy tab 7.0 plus. Likewise, the operating system has been upgraded to the Honeycomb 3.2 with the addition of Samsung’s TouchWiz interface. This connects you in real time, with continuous updates, with live action events, brought to your screen as they happen, great for the football and soccer fan keen to know how their team is performing! The new Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus is available in both 16 GB and 32 GB versions, plus it has both a USB 2.0 port and micro sd card slot so connectivity and adding more storage for your files, photos and music is easy.

Usability

Connecting on the move is handled by WiFi 802.11 for both, 2.4GHz and 5GHz, plus Bluetooth 3.0 and inbuilt GPS. Quad-band and 3G are supported as too channel bonding and apt-x Codec for Bluetooth. You can shoot video at 720p and then watch it on the seven inch LCD screen that has 1025 x 600 resolution. If you want more entertainment, then the Honeycomb 3.2 operating system allows you to connect to more than 250,000 apps and the clever Smart Remote App allows you to connect to your TV and will even remember your favourite TV shows! Because of the built-in IR you can remotely control all your A/V equipment. However, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 plus is also configured to improve your business life. It supports Microsoft Exchange and EASv14, WebEx, VPN, MDM and has on-device encryption so you can work securely on the move.

What Customers say

Customers confirm that battery life is good, though watching movies may drain power quicker and the screen brightness is set to conserve power. The ergonomics of this tablet are positively commented on by most customers. Its lightness and size make it ideal to use on the move and the screen resolution is excellent, so all in all a good viewing experience. There have been some reported issues of unexpected shutdowns, but a small percentage and most customers report a very efficient and responsive screen; easy to use even if you have large fingers and the TouchWiz feature enhances usability. App loading time is good, connectivity to TV and other appliances fast, GPS works once loaded without WiFi though you need that for updates.

Overall verdict

Customers who like the Android operating system love this tablet. It will connect with existing Android systems, such as your phone; it is light and extremely portable and the size is perfect for on the move working. Samsung has a wide range of tablets but they seem to have achieved a good balance between functionality and size with the Galaxy tab 7.0 plus.
