Samsung Series 7 Review

Last Updated on March 29, 2020

If you are looking for a tablet with massive capacity and the ability to transform into a home or office PC then the Samsung Series 7 11.6 inch slate is the tablet for you! This is not your average pocket sized portable tablet; larger than an ipad2 and with 128GB capacity it is more of a flat laptop.

Add to that the flexibility to use either the touch capacitive screen or a stylus that acts totally as a pen and you have a very neat business tablet.

Features

This is a beast of a machine! It is powered by an Intel Core i5 dual-core processor, loaded with a full version of Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium, has 4GB RAM and is 128GB of solid state hard drive. Despite all this it weighs less than 2 pounds and is an ultra thin half inch depth. It comes with BT V3.0 High Speed WiFi, 802.11 abg/n, a USB 2.0 port, additional U-HDMI port for connecting to a compatible HDTV or home theater receiver and a MicroSD memory card slot, plus Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity. You can stream music and videos through your HDTV without complicated connections, and on the move you have stereo speakers and up to 7 hours of battery life.

Usability

The Samsung Series 7 has an 11.6-inch Samsung Superbright Plus screen with 1366 x 768 resolution for HD 720p viewing and it has a 170° viewing angle. This is a capacitive multi touch screen with on screen keyboard or you can use the electromagnetic pen to write naturally on the screen. There is an integrated microphone and dual 2-megapixel (front) and 3-megapixel (rear) cameras for recording audio/visual files, which can then be shared via the USB or wireless capability. The Windows 7 operating system makes this the tablet of choice for those who want office compatibility and a business user is likely to find this their tablet of choice. The Bluetooth keyboard and docking station are made of the same brushed aluminum as the tablet and are well designed. The touch interface is clean, the stylus pen works within a half inch of the screen and there is a useful diamond that pops up tracking the pen’s movements for improved accuracy.

What Customers Say

This tablet is fast! Although some of the 128Gb is used up by operating system and other firmware, you still get a very fast boot up time. It is a particularly good tablet for artists, due to the touch and pen capability and the ability to handle heavy duty graphics programs. It is also recommended by users of one note as the Windows 7 software is perfect for capturing notes, images, etc and the speed makes browsing and capturing a pleasure. Users have reported running both IE9 and Firefox, plus the full office suite concurrently with no loss of speed! In other words, this really does work like a laptop and is used in that way by many customers. The cameras and speakers are reasonable but not brilliant, although this is not a top priority for users of the Samsung series 7.

Overall verdict

This is a top of the range tablet in price, but with the keyboard and docking station serves dual purpose as a mobile tablet and a home PC. It is best suited to the serious business user; student; freelancer, working person rather than as an entertainment tablet.

Update

Since January 2012, there is a newer model of Series 7 available. New model features full HD graphics (1920 x 1080 px) screen.
