HP TouchPad Review

Last Updated on February 9, 2021

HP is well known in the market for laptops and computers so it is logical that they would produce a tablet computer. In a market dominated by iPad and Apple, the other tablet manufacturers, Android based are trying to distinguish themselves.

The HP TouchPad and WebOS’s selling points include multitasking by visually “stacking” apps for easy switching back and forth, and the idea that with a touchpad you just start typing, without worrying which app you are in, and choose where to direct the text later.

It is a novel idea, and depends on HP’s claim that all their functions can switch between apps easily. At less than 300 US$ from Amazon, HP has got to prove that this tablet is something special.

Usability

HP has taken their time before releasing their tablet, their target being to position themselves in a competitive market with an edge, something to offer that the other tablet computers are not offering. Having their own operating system and with the synchronicity features that the HP TouchPad Wi-Fi 32 GB 9.7-inch Tablet Computer offers has made their tablet stand out amongst the crowd. The user interface is very friendly and very quick, almost intuitive. For those customers who like to multitask this tablet offers the way to do just that, with the functionality of multi apps open at once and seamless transition from one to the other.

What Customers say

There are overwhelmingly positive reviews of this tablet, but it is brand new, only released in June 2011 so there are only a few reviews out there. However, they all support the information given by HP on the multi tasking capability. The comparisons with the iPad are that with the HP you can swipe from one app to the next, never having to return to the home screen, and no double clicking. If you want to integrate all your email calendars for example, you can. If you want to use Google docs, Dropbox, Box etc, you can, they are all built in to existing applications such as Adobe, no need for a separate app. HP and WebOS have to catch up with the apps they offer, currently 6000 with 300 tablet specific, but all of the most critical apps are there, and new ones arrive in the store every hour! Time will tell as the HP TouchPad Wi-Fi 32 GB 9.7-inch Tablet Computer is very new, but from what customers are saying; iPad finally have them a serious competitor!
